Will the adjustment hurt?
The doctors at Coral Canyon Chiropractic are trained in the latest techniques of joint manipulation. Literally, your spine is in good hands with us. For those who are concerned about a traditional chiropractic adjustment, or have a condition that requires a more gentle approach, our clinic proudly offers the Pro-Adjuster, which is the latest, most state-of-the-art equipment in instrument adjusting. Through a series of gentle taps with a percussion instrument, the spine can be adjusted without any twisting or popping.
What is the popping sound?
Approximately 90% of the population does not seek out a chiropractor because of the popping sound associated with joint manipulation. Most joints in the human body are surrounded by supporting ligaments and a liquid called “synovial fluid.” Gasses inside the joint space are released when the joint is manipulated which results in an audible popping sound. In some cases, a joint may move without any audible sound (for example a joint surrounded by tight muscles or an inflamed joint from trauma).
I have a complicated condition, and I’m not sure if an adjustment is right for me.
Some examples of a complicated condition include; Degenerative Joint / Disc Disease, Osteoporosis, Fibromyalgia, etc. There are certain screening procedures for each condition, and are discussed with the doctor and you during a detailed examination. Whether or not you are a candidate for an adjustment is determined at that time. Because the doctors offer such a diversity of techniques when it comes to joint manipulation, many conditions may be helped right here at our clinic.
I have a bulging or herniated disk. Can this be treated with chiropractic?
Every day patients walk through our doors with bulging or herniated discs. Although considered a potentially serious condition, symptoms may be significantly reduced through a series of adjustments to your spine. We also offer an advanced treatment called “spinal decompression,” which literally helps the discs of your spine to regain fluid when it has been lost due to degeneration or trauma. This treatment has been clinically proven to be profoundly beneficial to those who choose this course of care.
Once I start coming, will I have to come the rest of my life?
No. In many instances we are able to address the region of pain within approximately 2 weeks. However, more persistent conditions may require additional treatment. Once the condition is stabilized, or the pain is reduced significantly, we suggest tapering your treatments to some type of routine to prevent flare-ups. Just as it is well advised to visit your dentist every 6 months to prevent tooth decay, we recommend some regularity to your adjustments to maintain the health of your spine.
I have numbness or tingling in my arms / legs. What does this mean?
Although there are multiple causes for this particular condition, the most common reason is increased pressure near the nerves exiting the spinal cord. The term for referred pain or numbness / tingling is “radiculopathy.” This is common with trauma or pain originating from a disc in your spine.
What type of care is best for me?
There are many types of chiropractic care, and each individual is a unique case evaluated by the doctors of Coral Canyon Chiropractic. However, below is a list of potential treatment programs that individuals may fall under (depending on your health care goals):
Relief Care: In this case, the patient simply wants relief from the pain they are experiencing and would like to be released when they are feeling better. Those that desire a quick, yet often temporary fix choose this type of care.
Corrective Care: Most patients have structural and functional problems with their spine that cause the pain. Corrective care patients choose not only to get out of pain but correct the cause by permanently changing their posture through modern therapeutic methods.
Performance Care: These patients want to improve their golf game, run faster, jump higher, or improve their athletic abilities in some way. Sport specific analysis and rehabilitation will be used to achieve their goal.
Wellness Care: Although not well understood by the scientific community, many patients report that Chiropractic care improves their entire well-being (mind, body, emotions and spirit so to speak) and they feel revitalized after treatment.
Maintenance Care: Routine checkups are good for your teeth but even better for your spine. Whichever type of care the patient chooses, they will be encouraged to come in occasionally to maintain the progress that they have made and prevent many future flare ups.
